Responsibilities
• Design and implement best-in-class solutions using technologies such as Java, Scala, Node.js, Spring, Akka, Play, and Lagom among others
• Ensure that all development efforts confirm to Precocity’s high standards of quality and production readiness by following, and helping to evolve, our best practice guidelines for software development.
• Work with architects and senior technical staff, both onshore and offshore, to identify new technologies, tools, frameworks, etc. that would be beneficial to an individual projects or for our practice as a whole.
• Communicate with client staff as necessary to report progress and to better understand their business context. This is usually in the form of daily stand up meetings.
• Work closely with and stay in constant communication with the corresponding onshore team on all assigned projects
• Work with existing and prospective clients to understand their business context and craft best-in-class solutions to their toughest problems
• Help coach and mentor more junior resources by providing encouraging and constructive technical feedback and advice
• Assist in our recruiting and interviewing process
Requirements
• 3+ years of software development and engineering experience
• 2+ years of experience with server-side java development
• Background in key aspects of software engineering such as parallel data processing, data flows, REST APIs,JSON, XML, and microservice architectures.
• Strong understanding of RDBMS concepts with strong SQL skills
• Experience with at least one NoSQL solution (e.g, Cassandra, Mongo, Couchbase, etc.)
• Experience working in a scrum/agile environment and associated tools (Jira)
• Proficient with application build and continuous integration tools (e.g., Maven, Gradle, SBT, Jenkins, Git, etc.)
• Hands-on experience with DevOps solutions such as Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, CloudFormation, etc.
• A passion for technology with a strong desire to constantly be learning and honing your craft
• Ability and desire to work in a consulting environment where understanding new business and technical contexts on a regular basis is the norm.
• Understanding of what it takes to make modern software production-ready including operations and monitoring strategies and tools
• Should have a collegial and collaborative working style
• Must be a self-starter and team player, capable of working and communicating with internal and client resources
• Strong verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct business and technical conversations in English.
Optional Experience
• Experience with Scala and Akka is a major plus
• Experience with container focused development and platforms is a major plus (e.g., Docker,
• Experience with PaaS platforms (e.g., Cloud Foundry, Beanstalk, AppEngine, OpenShift) is a plus.
• Kubernetes, Mesos, Mesosphere DC/OS, etc.)
• Any certifications related to NoSQL databases or cloud providers are a plus
• Experience with other server-side languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, etc.) is preferred
• General knowledge of products and solutions provided by major public cloud vendors (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure) is preferred.
