Backup Technician

The Backup Technician is responsible for implementing backup solutions on customer computer systems, including desktops, laptops and servers. The technician will be able to implement usable and recoverable backup solutions on various Windows environments, including workgroups and domains. The technician will be skilled and reading backup logs and troubleshooting issues with backups.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Sets up and configures backup systems for customers, including hardware and software
2. Deploys backup solutions for various customer needs, including Active Directory, Exchange, and SQL installations
3. Carefully reviews all backup logs and ensures recoverability of data. Re-schedules failed backups as necessary
4. Implements different backup types, such as full, incremental, and differential backups based on customer needs
5. Verifies and validates backups by performing periodic test restores
6. Devises workarounds for complex backup-related issues, including scripts to stop services and databases for proper backups
7. Keeps accurate logs of all work processed via supporting documentation and electronic work orders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Ability to read and comprehend complex technical instructions. This is normally acquired through a minimum of 2 years of experience in the computer and network field.
2. Knowledge of computer logic in order to perform tasks listed under Principal Duties and Responsibilities, above. This is normally acquired through a minimum of 2 years of experience in the computer and network field as well as completion of college-level computer programming classes
3. Knowledge of methodology to run computer system and to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions. This is normally acquired through a minimum of 2 years of experience in the computer and network field.
4. Experience with Image Based backup and virtual operating systems a plus
5. Interpersonal and English language skills necessary to communicate effectively with customers over the phone, in person, and in writing.
6. Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs.
7. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and coordinate with other staff.
8. Knowledge of some of these software or similar:
Shadow Copy, Shadow Snap, Datto, Acronis, Synctoc, Robocopy and CloudBerry.
9. Language: Spanish Native and English 80%
