Primary Responsibilities
1. Implement & Expand Environmental Education and Sustainable Operations Programs:
a. Lead and expand on hands-on environmental education program that informs and involves guest (adults and children alike) about environmental aspects of lodge operation, maintenance, construction, community outreach and rainforest and marine preservation efforts. Program includes various educational, interactive tours. Help raise financial support towards these area preservation programs.
b. Plan, organize and carry out interactive and fun activities to educate employees about a different theme every month.
c. Make environmental talks related with marine life, sustainability, etc and also invite people from the environmental NGOS that we support
d. Oversight of guest and employee observance of environmental/sustainable operational policies. (composting, recycling, use of energy efficient bulbs, biodegradable cleaning products, “leave no trace”, “take only pictures”, for example).
e. Identify opportunities to improve operational practices that promote sustainability; manage Nicuesa’s on-site recycling and composting programs.
f. Keep feeding the Marketing Department with Social Media Content related to our Sustainable Philosophy.
2. Spearhead Community Outreach and Conservation Efforts:
a. Continue improving Nicuesa’s presence and outreach activities in local communities (schools, scouts group, earth day events, beach clean-ups, recycling centers, etc), participate in the Environmental Coalition of Puerto Jimenez, represent Nicuesa at area community meetings related to conservation efforts, plan a large collaborative conservation events in nearby locales at least once a year, continue Nicuesa’s educational outreach program, etc.
3. Organize and Maintain Certifications:
a. Ensure that all aspects of sustainable operations included in the CST are maintained up to date (including statistics on resource use, collection of letters, employee education reports, etc)
b. Submit the CST questionnaire every 2 years.
c. Follow up on the Blue Flag Program and ensure that all data is being maintained correctly and meet with the employee group to achieve proposed annual goals.
4. Guest Liaison/Hosting:
a. Conduct short tours with guests (sustainability, edible landscaping); participate in meals and bar time with guests to answer questions and represent our sustainable operations.
5. Miscellaneous Administrative/Operational Assistance
6. Social Media content development.
a. Take photos and/or videos in all the events that you assist and also the different activities, projects related to sustainability. Add to each of them a briefly explanation of what happened on that event and where it took place to post it on the social networks.
