Founded in 1994, Outward Bound Costa Rica offers a range of experiential education programs to highschool, college students and adults that promise challenging physical activities across Costa Rica andPanama, with a focus on personal development, leadership, and cultural immersion.**JOB DESCRIPTION**Field instructor interns play a crucial role in students' experiences and aid in the successful delivery of anOutward Bound Costa Rica course. They help ensure the safety of students, that the course objectivesare accomplished, and the activities on course encompass the Outward Bound philosophy.This role requires extensive interpersonal skills in order maintain communication between instructors,conversant in Spanish, and have strong attention to detail.Field instructor interns report directly to the Operations and Program Director. This position requiresto live at our rainforest base in Costa Rica from May/June through August, and duties are 24/7throughout the duration of our multi-day courses.**RESPONSIBILITIES**:- Help lead instructors develop and run course activities- Help plan lessons, menus, and accommodation options alongside instructors/- Program Director- Prepare gear and other equipment for course- Help manage paperwork related to each course- Learn from instructors/Program Director**PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES**- Dynamic interpersonal skills- Experience managing people- Proven customer service- Strong organizational skills- Motivated to initiate and lead projects- Creative and professional writing skills- Good physical condition e.g. for multi-day hiking- Strong swimmer**ESSENTIAL QUALITIES**- Cultural sensitivity- Strong cross-cultural communication skills- English and Spanish language skills (conversational ability or above strongly preferred)- Personal interest in the outdoors and the mission of Outward Bound- Ability to multi-task and stay focused despite regular interruption- Positive attitude and sense of humor- Tenacity about traveling and ability to create personal connections outside of the work- environment- Ability to manage conflict professionally**CERTIFICATIONS**- Basic First Aid & CPR/AED- Lifeguarding with Waterfront Module- Whitewater Raft Guide License Level 2/3- NAUI Basic/Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver- _Not required, but highly recommended_**COMPENSATION PACKAGE**- Salary paid at a daily rate- Travel insurance coverage by Trawick International- Access to Outward Bound Costa Rica courses and equipment for personal use when available- Use of Manuel Antonio beach base when approved by the Program Director**HOW TO APPLY**Submit cover letter and resume to Daniel Jimenez, Program Director, atinclude details on your availability, both for interviews and ultimate start date.No phone calls please.
