The Solution Engineer (SE) is responsible for the successful delivery of ITO project initiatives thru the PM2 lifecycle, from estimation through the handoff to operations working closely with various internal teams and external vendors. Responsibilities require the Solutions Engineers to ensure ITO delivers on its commitment to manage under the outsourcing model with repeatable process, predictable outcomes and strategic alignment with corporate goals and IT initiatives.

High-Level Description of Functional Area
The SE should have deep working knowledge of IT product strategies and architecture, including external trends along with an understanding of hardware, software, network, security, database, and middleware architectures. SEs must have strong negotiation skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to understand the audience and communicate appropriately.
Role Overview:
• Evaluate High Level Requirements within the BRD (Business Requirements Document).
• Create Project Estimates.
• Convert client provided ITO business requirements into architecture designs.
• ITO resource forecast estimates.
• Partner with Architecture and Engineering to design and document solutions.
• Ability to communicate complex design strategies to both customer and HP ITO Leadership.
• Aid in creating Architecture strategies and roadmaps across multiple service lines and capabilities.
• Ensure implementation of best practices and Symantec policies.
• Work with Vendors on product capabilities and roadmaps.
• Create Architecture Overview (AO) Documents.
• Work with Customer, Engineering and Architecture teams to produce Architecture Overview and verify the design satisfies the requirements.
• Engage in Architecture Overview Peer Reviews.
• Obtain ATRB Approval of proposed Architectures.
• Key support of the business units request for ITSSC Exceptions.
• Maintain a working relationship with both HP and Client architecture teams. To assure full understanding on current and emerging road maps, provide ground level feedback to the architecture teams.
• Meet with Symantec customer for BRR (Business Requirements Review) to review and clarify Business Requirements.
• Create BRR log (use to document questions and assumptions from BRD).
• Design a solution according to the Business Requirement and current Architecture guidelines. Follow the various engineering standards in place at Symantec today.
• Verify the design with Engineering and Operations groups.
• Partner with Architecture and Engineering for gaps in any design and help drive any proof of concepts.
• Work with Business and Engineering teams to create BoMs (Bill of Materials) and validate costing and geographic delivery.
• Validate vendor quotes for Symantec and HP.
• Understand and aid in design of the following areas: Networking, Storage, BUR, Servers, Messaging, Identity–Management, Security, Databases, and Desktop solutions.
• Support to project managers with engaging the Engineering teams.
• Support the project manager regarding defining the technical part of the project including labor and budgets estimates.
• Provide technical leadership during the Project … communicate with engineering group and provide project status.
• Work with engineering teams to ensure appropriate infrastructure transition and transformation.
• Primary reviewer of FCR’s (for projects) before submitting for implementation.
• Consult with Engineering on creation of TDS (Technical Design Specification).
• Initial review of TDS before formal Peer Review.
• Interact with customer on Technical issues and status.
• Help define deployment and migration strategies.
• Initiate and conduct technical and functional design analysis.
• Provide End-to-End accountability for integration of client infrastructure, design, build, and deploy.
• Ensure project is delivered according to high quality standards.
• Provide Technical status to leadership.
• Work with Project Managers on Technical aspects of projects.
• Support Engineering groups with creation of TDS (Technical Design Specification).
• Validate design documentation to ensure they are sound.
• Review each project thru its life cycle to insure compliance with the approved design.
• Aid in TTO (Turn Over to Operations) process for each implementation.
• Provide input to PEC (Production Entrance Criteria) document.
• POC for the 30 day warranty after TTO.
• Aid with Implementation of new products.
• Work with Engineering to develop automation wherever possible.
• Level 3 support for design issues.
• First line of Escalation support for the ITO project.
• Central point for project technical discussions, assuring all ITO towers are aware of dependencies, cross functional efforts and owns the total project ITO solution.
Qualifications
Technical Skills and Experiences:
• Meets degree educational requirements or has equivalent work experience.
• At least four years of hands on experience with the following platforms:
• Linux, Solaris, UNIX, AIX, VMware, Windows 2008
• Meets web infrastructure-engineering skills in the following areas:
• Web Server (Sun One, iPlanet, etc) (3 years of experience)
• Knowledge in Oracle Database
• Knowledge in Backup/Restore (TSM, Networker, Avamar, etc)
• Knowledge in Sun Java Enterprise Server
• Knowledge in BEA WebLogic
• Knowledge in Red Hat
• Solid understanding in Networks, Firewalls, Routers, IP Filters
• Knowledge in Load Balancers (BigIP/F5, Cisco) is a plus
• Knowledge in J2EE
• Knowledge in UNIX Scripting
• Solid skills in using MS Project is a plus

• Has strong technical project leadership capabilities and be able to deal with complex issues with customers and vendors.
• Prior experience with application or infrastructure development projects
• Ability to manage projects within scope of responsibility.
• Ability to work flexible (8) hour shift – NA hours for all project assignments
• Capable of implement projects using ISO, SLC, and PM2.
• Ability to interact with customers regarding business and technical information
• Demonstrates strong team building skills - ability to work as a team (PM, Delivery, Client & Engineering)
