The Manager is responsible for providing all aspects of supervision to individuals supporting a functional area within Global Data
Management Services (GDMS). Interacts effectively with project teams and business partners, and serves as first line escalation path. Provides career development opportunities and manages performance. Participates in functional area process and project initiatives. Responsibilities may include supervision of staff and interaction with individuals across multiple MSD sites under the guidance and direction of the Associate Director/Director, in compliance with MSD Policies and Procedures, GDMS Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and ICH:GCP guidelines and within the department budget. Ensures effective interaction of GDMS staff with business partners to achieve business objectives.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

:Develops career plans for direct reports, makes work assignments, conducts periodic skill assessments as well as annual performance appraisals, coaches for performance, provides ongoing feedback on performance, provides rewards and recognition, and sets priorities.

:Provides developmental opportunities for direct reports, including challenging growth assignments. Prepares promotion recommendations.

:Ensures direct reports receive appropriate training and mentoring to be successful in their assignments.

:Participates in the recruitment process of the team.

:Aligns others around a positive direction. Develops challenging but achievable objectives that clearly support stated organizational goals.

:Maximizes staff effectiveness by working with direct reports to ensure a realistic workload that supports value:added work and work:life balance, estimating length and difficulty of tasks and projects, anticipating and adjusting for obstacles and setbacks, and elevating issues to the appropriate management level.

:Assume specific functional leadership responsibilities for business deliverables assigned to direct reports and supervised staff on project.

:Increases team and functional effectiveness by supporting functional efforts to simplify and standardize procedures to the greatest extent possible, sharing best practices and leading continuous improvement efforts under the direction of Associate Director

:May supervise contingent, non:exempt, or temporary workers, on:shore and offshore

:May assume responsibilities to support Process Owner activities in department for specific functional or business activity

:Manages performance

:Conducts management and functional area meetings, contributing expertise when necessary through formal or informal presentations.

:Keeps abreast of process and technology changes both within and outside of MSD that may impact staff.

:May participate in initiatives beyond functional area (e.g. cross:functional initiatives, etc.).

:May support any other project or perform any other data management or drug surveillance task deemed appropriate by management.

Qualifications

Education:

At least B.A. or B.S.
degree in relevant discipline (physician, veterinary, nurse, pharmacy, or healthcare related).

Knowledge and skills:

:Minimum 3:5 years'
experience in Clinical Data Management or Pharmacovigilance as appropriate to
business role or related industry.
:3 or more years of supervisory or management experience.
:An
overall working knowledge of the drug discovery or Drug Sur
